Re-release of the classic “Sharpening the Thousand Swords”, this is an instrumental rehearsal session recorded during the period of the album “Thousand Swords”, the greatest masterpiece ever produced by Graveland and made by the infamous trio Darken – Capricornus – Karcharoth (rip). This re-release contains photos from the “Thousand Swords” session as well as previously unpublished photos personally processed by Rob Darken especially for this version.

The band plays a fast, aggressive style of black metal that would go on to be more 'polished' in later releases. But on Frühlingserwachen, the sound is still quite gritty and raw, despite decent production values, and works well with its subject matter of WWI & WWII (with some anti-religious sentiments thrown in for good measure). The band leans into this theme with vocalist Iblis credited for "propaganda" and drummer Mayhemic Destructor as "artillery," a fitting description for the drums on the album.
