Secrets of Laceration takes notable steps further toward direction CB has been heading over last few albums. Most of the songs have rejected the traditional rock structure and flows forward with different approach.
Utmost focus on the core elements of riffs, melody, song structures and lyrics, leaving out everything unnecessary. In stripped down simplicity of sound, music and artwork it continues logical journey since Church Of Atrocity, with more distorted, lethal and fierce sound.
A mid-90s masterpiece, this is Dimmu Borgir and symphonic/classically inspired black metal before it became polished, an archaic and atmospheric work with heavy use of piano and calming passages contrasting with aggressive and epic metal aggression. A somber and immersive album that is arguably far more timeless than the later rerecorded/rewritten Stormblåst 2005 recorded a decade later.
Musikalisch gesehen ist "Ecce Homo" eine interessante und eingängige Platte von melodischen bis aggressive Black-Metal mit einer leichten progressiven Schnittkante versehen.
