The first song ‘Execution Litany’ immediately starts blasting right from the start with rattling drums and loudly haunting guitars. Also the bass guitar is quite prominently hear able right from the beginning and this gives it a nicely deep sound. The vocals are icy cold screams, something I like very much. The second song that follows is title track ‘Hegemon’. The switch from one to another song is fluently and immediately destroys everything on its path. Once again this song pounds like hell and the bass guitarist has a leading role in all of this. These first two tracks already got me excited for the rest, so I think this is an amazing start.
‘Anoint Wounds With Poison’ starts off in a calmer way compared to the first two songs. A time to take your breath, it could be seen like that. But do not think this is a softy, this track still has loads of blasting parts. The song is composed in a good way, slower more rhythmical parts are exchanged for faster blasting parts. I like this very much. ‘Anileo’ comes in with a bang and nicely rattles right from the start. I notice that I cannot keep my head still while typing this review. What makes this song great for me, is the mostly repeating rattling guitar riffs and the single plucks in between every now and then.
We take a little jump to the last song, believe me, the songs in between are great to listen to! But next to the ridiculously long title, ‘The Raising Chants For The New Hierarchy’ also includes more than just that. The song starts off with a blast with blastbeats and a lot of repeating riffs on guitar. The unique factor of this track, is the exchange into beautiful melodies played on bass and guitar. A nice song to end this amazing album with, but on the other hand it is a pity that it is finished after this. There where the song came in with a bang, it also ends with a bang that finishes this perfect Black Metal storm.
I am very impressed with ‘Hegemon’. The songs are all quite deeply composed and pounds remarkably good. The icy vocals that come with the musical parts, are very interesting to listen to in my opinion and never bore me. What I also like hearing on this album is the clearly noticeable bass guitar. This one pounds really good and that is something I like very much. So it is a pity that ‘Hegemon’ has to end at some point and I am already curious for another album in the future.
