Cradle Of Filth's debut album and a timeless masterpiece, 1994's Principle of Evil is a unique record that contrasts raw, violent, stripped down black metal with an air of genuine majesty and mystery. Hugely emotional and atmospheric, the material here is haunting and soaked in a very convincing occult/Satanic feeling, not least due to the input of one Frater Nihil. Dani's caustic and searing vocals are accompanied by guest contributions by Andrea Meyer and Darren White (Anathema). Like Dimmu Borgir's Stormblast, this is symphonic black metal before the subgenre became polished or commercial.
